AKA Buddhist Pine or Chinese Yew. Podocarpus is a dense evergreen with pointed, leathery, dark green leaves arranged on stiff, symmetrical branches. The tree which is unisexual, has male flowers in cones and female flowers composed of cylindrical thickened scales. The fruits often edible, are pedunculate, fleshy and brightly colored. New foliage comes in a light green color that turns darker with age. Our trees are trained in the traditional bonsai style. Grows very well albeit slowly indoors.
The Gardenia is prized for its flowers, fragrant perfume and creamy white color. It is also graced with dark evergreen foliage which makes a beautiful contrast to the delicate flowers. Blooms in spring and summer.
Lava Rock is a naturally occurring volcanic cinder that has a porous structure which makes the material lightweight and highly moisture retentive. Incorporate into your bonsai soil mix to increase drainage (aeration). It will absorb up to 40% of its weight in water. Small lava rock (1/4 to 3/8 inch) is the best "sand" component around because it is "sharp" and has very irregular surfaces.
Also known as 'Larix Kaempferi'. The very beautiful Larch is an unusual genus, one of the handful of decideous conifers which is very popular among bonsai growers around the world. Unlike many conifers, Larix cones are purplish in color and are quite small and seem in proportion to most sizes of bonsai. The color of the foliage is bright lime green at the start of the season, bright to dark green during the summer and yellow to bronze in the autumn.

The rocks selected for this unusual arrangement are imported and washed in acid, making them strikingly unique.
